Ultra Violet & Ozone

Ozone is a powerful oxidising agent, often used in aquaculture to breakdown dissolved organic matter, reduce colour and generally improve water quality. disinfect by sterilising bacteria and microorganisms

Ultra Violet Light Sterilisation.

WRA manufacture HDPE Ultra Violet Light Sterilising units. Designed to disinfect by sterilising bacteria and microorganisms as they pass through the light.

Ultra Violet Light Ozoneation.

WRA manufacture UV Ozone housings suitable for low volume Ozone generation. These are ideal for small volume or low load re-circulating aquaculture systems. Generally they produce approximately 2 grams per hour of ozone at concentrations of 0.1 - 0.5%. Multiples of these units can be used in parallel to generate higher doses of ozone.

Corona Discharge Ozoneation.

Corona Discharge Ozoneation is an electrical generation, on site, ozone producing process. Air is passed through an electrical field (Corona) and ozone is produced, the rates vary according to the efficiency of the generator. WRA use an recommend WEDECO Ozone generators.

Corona Discharge Ozoneation with Oxygen Feed.

Adding oxygen to the gas supply of an Ozoneator can dramatically improve it's performance, additionally because Oxygen generators  also filter and dry air it is an ideal air pre-treatment for any Ozone generator. Ozone production is approx doubled when Oxygen is used.

Note: It is important that any Ozone generating process be designed and installed correctly, Ozone is a toxic gas and a very strong oxidising agent, for the safety of the operators and the equipment we recommend Ozone generators only be installed by experienced installers.

Ozone has proven to be a most useful tool for Aquaculture in recent years. It is a fast, effective oxidising agent that has no long tern residual, that is to say large amounts of Ozone can be added to the water resulting in effective oxidisation (sterilisation) and conveniently the Ozone quickly reverts back to Oxygen. Notwithstanding should a sufficient quantity of Ozone be added to Seawater Bromine can be produced.

Bromine (an oxidising agent not unlike Chlorine) can be maintained as a residual and can require removal before  being used further along in the process train.

However a Bromine residual can be used to great advantage. For example an incoming raw water flow can be Ozoneated to sufficiently high levels to produce Bromine, the residual Bromine can then be maintained in the water in perhaps a storage tank or the like to prevent regrowth or other re-contamination, when the water is moved on only then would the Bromine be removed by Carbon filtration.

This technique has been used by WRA to great effect in raw water intake storage systems and can be used in pipeline systems etc.

Important also is way the Ozone is introduced into the water, effective diffusion, contact and resonance is essential for a good Ozone system.

Each system must be designed on its merits and to that end WRA design and manufacture package Ozone contact systems which include induction, diffusion, mixing and contact, resonance and separation. These packages can be used on any Ozone system and are a must for modern Ozone generation processes.
