Bio-Filters

Biofilters have been used to filter water for various uses for almost two centuries. Biological treatment has been used in Europe to filter surface water for drinking purposes since the early 1900s. Biofiltration methods are also common in wastewater treatment and aquaculture.biological water treatment involves the use of naturally occurring microorganisms

Biological water treatment involves the use of naturally occurring microorganisms in the water to improve water quality. Under optimum conditions, including relatively low turbidity and high oxygen content, the organisms break down material in the water and thus improve water quality. Biological treatment systems effectively reduce dissolved organic carbon, convert nitrogenous compounds, lower turbidity and reduce colour in water, improving overall water quality.

Use in Aquaculture -- The use of biofilters is common in aquaculture systems. There are many designs, with different benefits and drawbacks, however the function is similar... reducing water losses and improving water quality.

WRA manufacture trickle and pressure biofilters and can engineer fluidised bed filters, we can supply biomedia or you can use your own.
